They extended their lead ten minutes later when Shaun Howes scored from close range. In the 18th minute Danny Earl was released with a pass from Jamie Dawson and as he advanced on goal slipped the ball past an advancing keeper then tapped home goal number three. The second half was uneventful except for three sending offs first Jamie Dawson was dismissed after 49 minutes then Mark Lilley (Rosegale N & S.A) and Daniel Bannantyne were involved in a confrontation that saw both players sent from the field after 75 minutes. Rosegale N & S.A continued to press for further goals but with the extra man the George dominated the final period but could not find a way through and the victory went to Rosegale N & S.A. On 14 minutes a left wing cross from Paul Cleary was met by Andrew Blackburn to head home the second goal. On 19 minutes Billingham Cowpen Club pulled a goal back when a free kick found Andy Rowney who fired home. The game was quite tight for the rest of the half and no further goals came. The Royal started the second half strongly and it only took a minute to increase their lead when Chris Butler scored from a Wilkinson pass, on the hour they went further ahead when Wilkinson was again the provider when he crossed for Blackburn to score his second. Cowpen were then awarded a penalty for a trip but Rowney skied the penalty well over the bar. The Royal rounded things off in the 87th minute following good work from Blackburn and Wilkinson was on hand to fire home the fifth to secure the cup.

John Jackson Memorial Trophy Final

Rosegale N & S.A 1 Hardwick Social Club 4

These top teams in the Premier division met in the final of the John Jackson Memorial Trophy at Billingham Town on Friday night and Hardwick Social Club started brightly and were awarded a penalty after only two minutes for a shirt pull but Jamie Poole saw Stuart Newbold pull off a fine save to keep the scores level. District Sunday League. Canada had the advantage in the first half with a gale force wind at their backs. Mark Lilley came close to putting Rosegale ahead but had to watch his 25 yard screamer come back into play off the upright. Rosegale were dealt a shattering blow on the half hour as captain Liam George was dismissed for what looked like a well timed tackle. Things went from bad to worse as Canada put in a cross from the corner flag which was carried by the wind over the keepers head into the net. Rosegale went two down at the start of the second as Stuart Newbold could only parry a shot into the path of the incoming striker. The ten men now wind assisted took complete control of the game and despite a magnificent performance and opportunities galore, failed to hit the target. Rosegale must gain from their experience in this competition, but hope they don't resort to their tactics of the opponents in how to influence the referee’s decisions.

Division One

Billingham The Merlin 2 Port Clarence 0

Billingham The Merlin went top of the first division with a 2-0 win against Port Clarence. They certainly didn’t have it easy and had to dig deep to get the result Merlin went close on numerous occasions and finally scored through James McLeod on 30 minutes. Rosegale netted first after Billy Gatenby headed home a Danny Rowbotham cross into the box. Danny Earl added a second with a delicate chip over the keeper after a neat through ball by Dean Bell. In the second half Rosegale went further ahead as Dean Bell smashed home a loose ball after Earl was tripped in the box. Dawdon were given a foothold in the game having been given a penalty and converting nicely from the spot. Earl playing a blinder continued to turn defenders inside out and causing them all sorts of problems throughout, pull the deficit back, bringing down a long clearance outpacing the defenders and curling round the advancing keeper. Dawdon rallied on the hour picking up two goals in a 15 minute spell, as Rosegale became complacent and only a first class save by Stuart Newbold preventing them bringing the scores level, but they weathered the storm, picked themselves up with Gatenby firing home his second and earning Rosegale a place in the last 16 of the FA All England Sunday Cup, a magnificent team performance

Division One

Thornaby Aerodrome Club 0 Billingham The Merlin 7

Magical Merlin net 7!! 70 minutes, and doubled his account 3 minutes later with a fine taken goal from 25 yards .Marc Kirton sealed the game with a well taken header on 85 minutes.

All England Sunday Cup Round 2

West Bowling 3 Rosegale N & The game itself was under threat as dense fog caused concerns for the referee who decided to let the game go ahead with the use of floodlighting. West Bowling started the brightest and netted in the 5th minute however Jamie Dawson pulled the score level on 12minutes with a bullet, Bowling again took the advantage and the writing looked to be on the wall as Liam George the Rosegale captain was carried from the field with a bad ankle injury on 20 minutes. Rosegale battled on and went into the interval 2-1 down against the big physical side. The second half Rosegale got back into the game after Dean Bell blasted a shot against the upright and Danny Earl was quickest to react and knock home the rebound. Jamie Dawson gave Rosegale the advantage with a superb volley from outside the box. Bowling clawed their way back into the game as they replied with a 25 yarder stunner, the game then became more physical as both sides tried to gain the advantage. Danny Earl sealed the tie when he outpaced the tiring defenders cutting in from the flank and unleashing a daisy cutter into the bottom corner leaving the keeper riveted to the spot. Man of the match for Rosegale was Jamie Dawson. Rosegale N & S.A now face another away trip in round three against Dawdon Colliery Welfare.

Division One

Port Clarence 2 Billingham The Merlin 3

Merlin scored in the first 10 minutes through debutant Chris Garbutt with a well taken goal from 15 yards. Merlin missed several chances to go further ahead in the first half and finished the first half 1-0 up. Chris Garbutt was the supplier this time when he set up James McLeod for The Merlin’s second and Port replied immediately with a well taken goal on 60 minutes. James McLeod shot straight at the keeper when he was put in by Chris Garbutt but made amends 10 minutes later when he scored from 20 yards with a rocket into the top corner. Port Clarence scored their second goal on 80 minutes to set up a thrilling last 10 minutes. Merlin keeper Brian Bailey was outstanding by saving two shots in the last five minutes and sealed the game for The Merlin who are still unbeaten in the league

Match Reports 13 November 2011

<h1 align="center" style="margin: 24pt 0cm 0pt; Hardwick played the better of the two sides in the first half and were 2-0 up at the interval. Rosegale after been given a tongue lashing at half time responded well as Danny Earl rocketed home a Billy Gatenby cross early in the second half. Gatenby brought the score level rounding a couple of Hardwick defender’s with sheer pace and rifling into the bottom corner with the outside of his boot. Gatenby then sealed the tie with a perfectly placed header from a inch perfect cross from strike partner Earl. Stuart Newbold (Rosegale keeper) crowned his return from injury with a top draw triple save late on while Darren White (Hardwick keeper) was awarded man of the match for his display between the sticks with Jamie Dawson named Rosegale’s man of the match.

<h2 align="center" style="margin: 10pt 0cm 0pt; They went 2-0 down after a mistake from keeper Stott but they battled back to reduce the arrears when after some pressure Jamie Heslop scored after ten minutes of the second half. Rosey where reduced to 10 men when Mikey Mann was sent off, rather than feel sorry for themselves they battled back to equalise through Mark Lathan. Rosey got the winner through Lathan and then defended brilliantly to keep out Hartburn to secure a well-deserved victory. Andrew Dyson was tremendous for Rosey but to a man each player gave there all.

Match Reports Sunday 25 September 2011

Durham Sunday Cup Second Preliminary Round

Sunderland Steels Athletic 1 George & Dragon (Yarm) 5

The George and Dragon Yarm progressed in the Durham Cup with a comfortable 5-1 win away at Sunderland Steels Athletic. The game was played on a neutral venue as Steels’ pitch was unavailable. The George were comfortable from the first 10 minutes when they were 1-0 up through a Bry Stewart penalty after he was fouled in the box.

The George continued to attack and soon made it 2-0 after Gary Bowe finished off a flowing George attack. It could have been a lot worse had it not been for the Steels keeper, saving a one on one and making other numerous saves. Adam Richardson smashed home a volley before half time and Bry Stewart added another 2 in the second half to finish the game off.

Credit to the Steels as it wasn’t always one way traffic, the George defence had to still be concentrating due to their pace and skill in attack. In the last 20minutes Steels did get a deserved goal and continued to pressure the substitute George keeper, Adam Rogers, who’s double save managed to keeper the score at one.

Man of the Match for the George and Dragon was Bry Stewart, who finished off a perfect day by winning £25 on the blind card!
Premier Division

Dubliners 0 Rosegale N & S.A 5

Rosegale kept up their fine start to the season with an away win at Premiership newcomers Dubliners. The game itself was played in the right spirit by both teams. Rosegale were three up at the interval with goals by MOTM Dean Bell, Billy Gatenby and Danny Earl. David Johnson and Danny Dawson adding to the tally in the second half, both keepers were in fine form Chris Escritt (Rosegale) denying Dubliners on occasions with some fine saves when called upon, and Tom Brown (MOTM Dubliners) frustrating the Rosegale strikers throughout.

Division Two

Roseworth Club 10 Billingham Station 3

The Rosey took the lead within 5 minutes when a fine ball from Thomas found Jamie Heslop and he did what he does best and scored through the keeper’s legs to open the scoring. Rosey went two up when a shot from Mikey Mann took a deflection and went into net. Rosey ten dominated the game and it was only a matter of time before they scored more goals. Mark Lathan then took over and scored four goals before half time with two tap ins, a fine right foot finish & a sublime chip. Station pulled one back to reduce the arrears but Heslop scored again to restore it to 7-1 at half time. Station started a bit better in the second half and scored a second to make it 7-2. The Rosey then rattled off three quick goals through Lathan and two from Mikey Mann to complete his hat trick. Station pulled another one back late on to make the final score 10-3.

Division Three

Castle & Anchor 2 Cleveland Bay 3

Cleveland Bay took ages to get into the game but when they woke up and started to play football it was inevitable that a great free flowing move was finished off with a great header from Phillip Cook which beat the keeper. The Castle then got a debatable free kick on the edge of the 18yard box which was superbly curled into the top corner for 1-1 at the break. Bay then upped things but despite poor finishing just could not seem to score it was then that Ross Jennings got in on the act and fired the ball home but again the Castle would not lie down and got a penalty but this was skied high over the bar but they got the equaliser when a slight mix up allowed the equaliser. With ten minutes to go Cleveland Bay turned up the heat and should have scored a few but all efforts where scrambled away until 3 minutes to go when Glen Davison hit a miss cued shot that fell to Andy Hetherington who smashed the ball into the roof of the net to give Cleveland Bay all 3 points.

Match Reports Sunday 18 September 2011

Division Three

Cleveland Bay 4 Oddfellows F.C 3

A match played in good spirits started with Bay taking the lead after 1 minute with a slick move that saw the ball played out left it was squared inside to Phillip Cook on the edge of the box and with the outside of his boot found the bottom corner. Bay were then on top and should of added but Oddfellows were on level terms when a referees whistle went everyone stopped play but the forward scored. The Oddfellows went in front with a dodgy penalty but Bay started to play again after a dodgy 10 minutes and rightly equalised when Dominic Matthewman scored. West End took the lead after 20 minutes when Peacock ran on to a good threw ball from Andy Brown to slot it passed the cricket club keeper then after 30 minutes The Cricket Club made it one each when Neil Preston got the ball on the half way line and went passed 4 players then blasted it passed Simpson in the West End goal. Right on half time West got a free kick 20 yards out and this saw Peacock blasted it past the keeper to make it 2-1 at half time

In the second half the Cricket Club began to play the better football and were awarded a penalty after 50 minutes but it was well saved by Simpson in the West End goal. They were playing the reigning champions who were looking to get off the mark following an opening day defeat.

The opening goal came to Hardwick in simple fashion, a long throw in fell directly on Phil Parkinson’s head and from 5 yards he could make no mistake. As simple as the opening goal was, the football on show by Hardwick was simply irresistible to watch. But a misplaced pass found Bry Stewart, who fed Shaun Fields for 1-1, and after being under early pressure, they hoped that would spur them on. Sadly they were to be disappointed as they were again behind from an absolute thunderbolt! An unstoppable 25 yard shot from James Wilson into the top corner restored Hardwick’s advantage. Goals from Scott Hines and Jamie Owens either side of half time put Hardwick in complete control.

However, with 30mins to play the George turned the game on its head and piled on their own pressure and pushed Hardwick right back. Adam Richardson’s weaving run reduced the score line to 4-2. The George thought they’d reduced the deficit further, Dan Titchner was slipped through on goal and beat the defender to the ball as they came together, the defender came worse off and Titchner buried the shot beyond Darren White. The referee blew wrongly, citing an illegal shoulder barge by the George striker. A denied penalty shout and saves from White continued to keep the Hardwick’s advantage at two. Bry Stewart scored a penalty late on for 4-3 after a handball, but as time ran out it was not to be an impressive comeback as Hardwick held on. The man of the match awards were Steven Roberts for Hardwick and Bry Stewart for the George.

Division Two

Roseworth Club 3 Moby Grape 1

The Rosey started the game as if the points were already in the bag but the Moby Grape were the better side for 45 minutes. Poor finishing & fine defending prevented Moby being out of site. Within 5 minutes of the 2nd half starting the Rosey were awarded a free kick which Peter Carlin took and Jamie Heslop rose in front of the defender to head Rosey in front. Heslop scored again with an instinctive finish to make it 2.0. The Moby never gave up and reduced the arrears with a fine finish from Christopher Bousefield. Roseworth sealed the points with the goal of the game from Jamie Heslop who completed his hat-trick with a left foot shot that no keeper would have saved. Special praise must go to Jamie Stott, Simon Whybourne and Peter Carlin who held Rosey together in the first half. Man of match for Rosey was Simon Pearson.

Match Reports Sunday 28 August 2011

Premier Division
Norton George & Dragon 2 George & Dragon (Yarm) 3

The George and Dragon derby was back in the Premier League this week, when George and Dragon Yarm travelled to Norton George & Dragon. These two played last season in the cup where it produced 2 red cards and 7 goals. This time around it didn’t produce the red cards, but it did produce 5 goals and entertainment!

The first 20mins started cagey with neither team gaining control of the match. However from then on Norton seemed to dictate the play, with their 5 man midfield, and we really working the G&D Yarm. They took the lead when a cross from the right found Christopher Burton, who planted a header in the far corner. It was the team from Norton that finished the half stronger, with G&D Yarm only looking dangerous on the break.

The second half started much brighter, and George & Dragon Yarm were straight back into the game, when the Norton G&D play was broken up and the ball was slid through to Bry Stewart to equalise. Shane Henry planted a header in the top corner from a corner for 2-1 to Norton. However Yarm were straight back into the game when Bry Stewart won a penalty and dispatched it from 12 yards.
The game was really great to watch with Norton trying to pass it but Yarm really working hard to stop them and playing some excellent football of their own. The game was won in controversial fashion when a 50/50 ball was won by Dan Ballantyne who crossed for Bry Stewart to complete his hat-trick. The Norton players were appealing for a foul by Ballantyne, but referee Jamie Cann, allowed play on.
George and Dragon Yarm finished victorious 3-2 with Bry Stewart the Man of the Match, with Shane Henry earning it for Norton G&D.

Division One
Port Clarence 1 Stockton West End 9

After both team got off to great starts last week this game looked on paper to be a tough game, West End started brightly in very windy conditions in their favour with two early goals from Mullgrew and Dinsdale. Port were finding it hard to get into Stockton West End box and were getting frustrated as
West continued to press and were awarded a penalty in the 30th minute which Mullgrew scored to make it 3-0. Port pulled one back in the 37th minute but from the restart Dinsdale scored his second to make it 4 1 at half time.

In the second half with the wind against them West end began to dominate the game scoring another 5 goals with Dinsdale completing his hat-trick and Billy Thomas scored two making it four goals in two games for his new club. Sam Higgins and man of the match Andy Brown scored one each to make the final score West End 9 Port 1.

Division Two
Fairfield Social 0 Roseworth Club 8

The Rosey took the lead within 10 minutes with a penalty converted by Andy Ruddy after the keeper had saved his first effort. Roseworth continued to dominate but could not convert their domination into goals. With 5 minutes left of first half they got their second goal through Ruddy again. The second half was a one sided affair after Ruddy chipped the keeper too complete his hat-trick. Lee Jordan came on with 25 minutes left and scored a hat-trick within 15 minutes. Further goals from Jamie Heslop and Mikey Mann completed a comfortable win; man of match for the Rosey was Andy Ruddy.

Match Reports Sunday 21 August 2011

Premier Division
Dubliners 2 George & Dragon (Yarm) 5

Newly promoted Dubliners entertained George and Dragon Yarm in the first league fixture of the season. The Dubliners started the brighter of the two teams passing the ball around and went 1-0 up when a long ball was headed back across goal by Chris Wrathmall, for Dominic Booth to score an easy tap in. The Dubliners went 2-0 up when a long ball to the George and Dragon area was not dealt with. The George and Dragon defender slipped and the ball touched his arm, with players appealing for a penalty, the referee, Jamie Cann allowed play to go on and for Chris Wrathmall to round the keeper for his 1st of the season. Thomas Brown, in the Dubliners goal, had to be on hand to stop Bry Stewart twice and Dan Ballantyne as the George looked to get back into the game before half time. They did eventually get a goal back when Ballantyne chased down a long ball to square to Bry Stewart to open his account for the season.

The second half hinged on a moment of stupidity, 10 minutes into the half Lee Arif was sent off for the Dubliners for spitting at two George players. The player was already walking a tightrope after being booked in the first half and spoken to on numerous occasions. This allowed the George and Dragon space to dominate the game in the second half. Dave Barkley equalised, Adam Richardson, Bry Stewart and Gordon Mitchell adding the extras. The George and Dragon spurned numerous other chances to add to the score line; however this would have been harsh on the Dubliners. The Man of the match was Chris Wrathmall for the Dubliners and Gordon Mitchell for the George and Dragon Yarm.

Division One
Harpers Bar 1 Stockton West End 4

West End started the game brightly putting a lot of pressure on Harpers goal without scoring until the 25th minute when goal keeper Simpson played a long goal kick for Peacock to get on the end of it and lob the keeper.
