Within a few minutes the Dolphin were awarded a penalty for a clumsy foul by a Hardwick defender, Darren White making his debut in the Hardwick goal saved the penalty. Just before half-time Hardwick scored again, Jamie Owens latched onto a ball over the top of the Dolphin defence; he quickly controlled the ball and picked his spot into the bottom corner. South Bank 3 Rosegale N & S.A 0

On the opening day of the 2009/10 season South Bank entertained Rosegale in a cracking match the strong wind played a major role in the outcome. It was an even game at the start with both teams battling for control of the midfield. When South Bank took the lead after fifteen minutes a passing move involving Adam Livingstone, Paul Barker ended with a through ball by Martin Laing who found Anthony Reed who smashed home past Patrick Pasani 1-0. Rosegale mounted a sustained fight back and the Bank with the strong wind at their backs managed to keep opposing forwards at bay. On the half hour good work by Harrison Davies, Gary Owens put Marty O'Riordan clear his pass to Anthony Reed was smacked home despite the keeper getting a hand to the ball could not prevent the Bank going 2-0 up. Mark Taylor broke up a Rosegale attack with a great tackle his clearance found Anthony Reed he outpaced the defence to hit home for his hat-trick half time 3-0. The second half saw Rosegale pressing the play with the wind, man of the match Philip King well supported by Jamie Clarke coped well with the aerial bombardment that followed South Bank lost Martin Laing and Paul Barker both injured with substitutes Lee Embleton and Simon Annal taking over and both doing well. Full backs Adam Livingstone and Mark Taylor played the ball out on the floor to wide men Harrison Davies and Marty O'Riordan both causing problems for Rosegale on the counter attack. Gary Owens controlled the midfield doing the simple effective passing frustrating Rosegale who became impatient over hitting the ball. The Bank always looked dangerous when Anthony Reed got possession on the counter again a nervous looking Rosedale. This was a fine hard match that took place in good spirit and was handled very well by Mike Walkington a credit to both sides and the League.

Division One

Stainsby 1The Sheraton 7
It’s that time again first game of the season with everyone looking forward to the big kick off. Both teams were ready early and the game kicked off Stainsby took the wind, and used it putting a couple of long balls over the top which were hard to deal with, but the first chance fell to the Sheraton with Carl Thompson coming off the left wing but was denied by the post, then a long ball up field which the Sheraton didn’t deal with new boy Danny Phillips made a great save one on one before Phil Purcifer cleared off the line, the Sheraton had been warned and it was a long kick up field which first bounced over centre back Liam Connor then over the Sheraton keeper before being tapped in to put Stainsby 1-0 up.
The Sheraton were playing good football in midfield and Ash Hauxwell was getting chances upfront but the Stainsby keeper was up to the task the Sheraton got one back just before half time when Ash Hauxwell hit a shot from a wide angle which looked to go through the side netting but referee Alan Powles awarded the goal 1-1 it was all square at half time. Paul Connor demanded more from his team at half time and took Lee Helliwell off for Martin Slater and the manager got his way the Sheraton upped it and put their foot down working hard and Stainsby couldn’t handle it finding it hard to get out their own half, a in swinging corner went straight in from Carl Thompson and minutes later Liam Connor got the third from another Carl Thompson corner. The Sheraton were right on top and man of the match Marc Parry was putting in a good shift, Ash Hauxwell got his second goal a very good finish finding the top corner, Stainsby keeper made a number of save’s but the Sheraton’s centre midfielders were both playing well and it was Dave Charnock turn to put a great ball through to Martin Slater to go through one on one and find the back of the net Carl Thompson found Dave Charles who headed it in from close range. The final goal came from another great corner from Carl Thompson which found Martin Slater who once again went one on one the finish the game 7-1.

Division Two

The Eagle 2 Port Clarence 1

The Eagle came out on top of the opening fixture of the season against Port Clarence.  The home team played some good football in the first half and were rewarded with two goals from Dan Battram early into the second half.  Port Clarence fought back and scored midway through the second half; Clarence kept the pressure on the Eagle and forced some good saves out of the keeper.  But it was the Eagle that deservedly came out of the game on top and sealed the three points.
